Every winter when temperatures dip below freezing in our area, irrigation overspray on public streets and sidewalks causes dangerous situations; and can create a $1,000 fine from the city.
The best suggestion is to turn your sprinkler systems to the off position from November thru March. Operate it manually when necessary. During the winter “dormant” months for landscaping it is only necessary to water if we have experienced no precipitation for a month.
Another great idea is to install a rain/freezer sensor. This system will temporarily override the programmable systems during rain or freezing temperatures. This system will help you save money on your water bill all year around. These sensors can stop working over a period of time so be sure to check them to be sure they are functioning properly.
