Every winter when temperatures dip below freezing in our area, irrigation overspray on public streets and sidewalks causes dangerous situations; and can create a $1,000 fine from the city.
The best suggestion is to turn your sprinkler systems to the off position from November thru March. Operate it manually when necessary. During the winter “dormant” months for landscaping it is only necessary to water if we have experienced no precipitation for a month.
Another great idea is to install a rain/freezer sensor. This system will temporarily override the programmable systems during rain or freezing temperatures. This system will help you save money on your water bill all year around. These sensors can stop working over a period of time so be sure to check them to be sure they are functioning properly.
You will find more information about water conservation and safety tips here.
Stay warm,

As we head into the height of the holiday season we are baking, wrapping and shopping, I thought I would share a few different things to do with baking flour.   Since this is also the season of baking flour is on sale and maybe you have a little left in the bottom of the container – here are some ideas and good uses:
1.     Clean playing cards.
·        If your cards are looking gray put them in a plastic bag with a half-cup of flour. Shake for one minute. Remove the cards and shuffle the deck a few times over the sink to clear.
2.     Unstick a lid.
·        Have a plastic container that closes a little too tightly? Dip the container edge in flour to prevent sticking.
3.     Clean heavy white fabrics.
·        Spot clean white canvas, leather, faux leather, vinyl and even curtains by rubbing flour into the dirt lines, then brushing clean.
4.     Mix up some glue.
·        Whip up craft glue for the kids by missing 1 part flour with 3 parts water. Boil, stirring, until it becomes paste; store in the fridge.
5.     Make clay.
·        Knead together 1 cup water, 3 cups flour and 1 teaspoon vegetable oil. Add food color. To store, moisten and wrap it in plastic and put in the fridge.
Get the kids involved – bet they will be impressed that you can make your own clue!
Thanks for stopping by,

A recently released report tracks 6 different crime areas (murder, rape, burglary, robbery, aggravated assault and motor vehicle theft) to determine the safest cities in America. This report reveals good news for all of us. Crime in the US is down from last year. According to the FBI violent crimes are down 1.9% and property crimes are down 0.8%.
Allen, Texas made the top 10 of the safest cities - #9 to be exact! Allen has been ranked number nine for the past two years. Its crime rate is 75.16% below the national average.
Living in Allen is a great choice for many reasons; home values have remained very steady; price per square foot for homes is among the highest in our area; homes are selling a steady rate. If you are considering moving to Allen or upgrading your current home in Allen, call us – we can help!
