For more than 85 years fire departments have observed Fire Prevention Week, making it the longest running public health and safety observance on record. Each year there is a central theme for the week, the focus this year is Creating and Practicing Multiple Home Escape Routes.
It is important to have at least two routes, this gives your family options if the usual route is blocked. All family members should routinely practice the escape route plan – the plan should also be updated to accommodate the changes in your family dynamics – age of family members, new pets, etc.
There are an estimated 369,000 home fires across the US each year and less than 23% of the homes have developed and practiced an escape plan. Plano Fire Departments
are hosting an Open House Thursday, October 11, 2012
from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. This is a great opportunity to see the station near you and to meet the brave firemen as well as learn more about fire prevention.
